A barn on the Thurston County Fairgrounds used for RV storage burned early this morning, according to Lacey Fire District Three.

Lacey firefighters were called to Carpenter Road Southeast and Stanfield Road Southeast about 1 a.m. after a passerby reported seeing “lots of smoke” showing from the barn. Crews said they arrived six minutes later and found a 50 by 50 foot open-sided barn fully engulfed.

They quickly doused the flames, keeping it from spreading to other structures on the fairgrounds. The barn that burned is called “Hicks Lake Barn” and is rented as RV storage from September to June, fire officials said.

Thurston County records show the barn was currently holding two motor homes, a 5th wheel and two boats.

A cause of the fire has not been determined.
