Downtown masturbatorTacoma Police say they’ve captured the man suspected in a series of lewd incidents at downtown businesses.

According to police spokesman Naveed Benjamin, police spotted a man matching the suspect’s description in the area of 6th Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Way, at around 3:50 p.m.

The man ran; the officer caught him. Later, officers positively identified him as the suspect. He was arrested and booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of fourth-degree assault.

Earlier: Tacoma police today released a surveillance photograph of a young man they say has masturbated on several female employees of downtown businesses in recent weeks.

The man is black, 16 to 20-years-old with a medium complexion and “baby face.” He is 5 feet 8 to 6 feet tall with a slender build and short braids worn beneath a ski cap.

He is accused of targeting at least three establishments on Antique Row in the last two weeks.

Business owners and police said the man distracts the employee and then ejaculates on her. Oftentimes the victim doesn’t realize what he has done until someone points it out to her.

Sonja Silver, who founded Shop Girl Tacoma with 50 active members, said business owners are keeping their eyes out for the suspect and formalized a phone tree to warn neighboring businesses if a crime occurs.
