|A flood-prone house slated for demolition will be used for Tacoma police SWAT training today, which means neighbors could hear unusual noises coming from the home.
The house, located at 4303 47th Avenue East in the Riverside neighborhood between Tacoma and Puyallup, is owned by Pierce County. It is scheduled to be torn down and returned to a natural floodplain.
A SWAT team will use the house for tactical exercises today from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We appreciate the opportunity to use this property to train in a realistic setting,” Lt. Ed Wade, SWAT commander, said. “This type of training is valuable in order to practice tactical skills for situations we may encounter in the future.”
The county bought the house in December as part of the county’s flood buyout program, which allows them to purchase properties prone to flooding from willing homeowners using Federal Emergency Management Agency grant funding.
