UPDATE as of 4:11 p.m. Evidence of the marijuana grow was seized from the house and a report will be sent to Pierce County prosecutors, Puyallup police spokesman Scott Engle said.
INITIAL POST: A marijuana grow was uncovered inside a Puyallup home this morning after the house caught fire.
Someone renting the home called 911 about 8:25 a.m. to report seeing smoke coming from the roof in the 800 block of 5th Street Southeast. Fire crews were able to quickly knock down the blaze.
No one was injured. Investigators haven’t figured out what started the fire but it is believed to be accidental, Central Pierce Fire & Rescue Assistant Chief Randy Stephens said.
Puyallup police are handling the marijuana investigation.
Capt. Scott Engle said it’s unknown at this point how many pot plants were being grown in one of the bedrooms.
“We’re trying to determine if it’s a legal marijuana grow or not,” he said.
