Two men trying to flee Auburn police late Monday were injured after crashing a stolen vehicle in Fife.

The pursuit started about 11:45 p.m. when Auburn officers got report of a 1978 Chevrolet Monte Carlo being stolen. After seeing it driving on Highway 18, police chased it down southbound Interstate 5 until the driver lost control and crashed into a cable barrier near the Port of Tacoma Road exit, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The Monte Carlo rolled several times, throwing the 22-year-old driver and 45-year-old passenger from the vehicle. Both men were taken to area hospitals. Their conditions are unknown.

Another car suffered damaged from flying debris, Auburn police Commander Mike Hirman said.

Southbound I-5 lanes were closed for hours while police processed the scene.
