UPDATE as of 5:25 p.m. Deputies arrested a 32-year-old man for investigation of the shooting, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said. Deputies found the suspect in the Parkland area and the car hidden behind a building in the 13600 block of Pacific Avenue in Parkland, Troyer said. The man was arrested for investigation of assault, hit and run, and possession of stolen property.

No one was injured when a car and school bus crashed in the South Hill area this afternoon about 7 blocks from where the car had been involved in a shooting, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

Students on the bus are being taken back to Zeiger Elementary School, according to the Puyallup School District.

A silver car cut the bus off at 94th Avenue East and 136th Street East, causing the bus to clip the rear of the vehicle, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Damage to the bus was minimal, and deputies were working to locate and identify the car, he said.

The car had driven on 136th from Meridian East, where it had been involved in a shooting, Troyer said.

Troyer said initial reports that the bus was hit by a bullet were incorrect, and that no shots were fired near the bus and no students saw the shooting.

“Most of the kids don’t even know anything about a shooting,” Troyer said.

Puyalllup School District officials were working to determine the number of students on the bus at the time of the incident. District spokesman Brian Fox said the children were dismissed from Zeiger Elementary at 2:46 p.m. and the incident was reported about 45 minutes later.

Students were being transported on a different bus back to Zeiger, and school staff were contacting parents, Fox said.

Staff writer Debbie Cafazzo contributed to this report.
