Arson was the cause of a vacant house fire in the 4800 block of South J Street Tuesday afternoon, according to the Tacoma Fire Department.

Firefighters responded about 1:20 p.m. to the 1,000-square-foot home and spotted heavy flames coming from the front and back of the house. Crews initially struggled to battle the “well-entrenched” fire because a downed power line briefly blocked their access to haul a hose line but eventually dragged the hose across a sidewalk and around the downed line, officials said.

No injuries were reported. Damages are estimated at $103,000.
