UPDATED: Vacant home burns in Tacoma

UPDATE as of 9:39 p.m.: The cause of the fire appears to be suspicious, according to Tacoma Fire investigators. Officials referred the case to the Tacoma police arson investigation unit. The estimated damage is $103,000, according to Tacoma Fire.

UPDATE as of 1:58 p.m.: The fire has been knocked down, according to the department.

No injuries were reported and a cause remains unknown.

INITIAL POST: Firefighters are battling a blaze that broke out at an abandoned home in Tacoma this afternoon.

Flames were spotted about 1:15 p.m. in the 4800 block of South J Street. Crews had a difficult time getting a hose to the house because of a downed power line but eventually dragged it across the sidewalk, the department reported.

No one appears to be inside but firefighters are still trying to extinguish the blaze.
