UPDATE as of 10:54 p.m. Crews responded to the fire about 8:30 p.m. to find the blaze spreading underneath a single-wide mobile home, Kent Fire spokesman Capt. Kyle Ohashi said. Firefighters cut a hole in the floor to get to the flames and extinguish them, he said. The family will stay will relatives, he said. The fire started in a malfunctioning furnace and was an accident, according to Kent Fire. Crews don’t know whether there were working smoke alarms in the home, and if the family hadn’t discovered the blaze before going to bed, the flames would have further endangered the residents, Ohashi said.

INITIAL POST: A house fire in the 11300 block of Southeast 227 th Place displaced four adults and one child tonight, according to Kent Fire Capt. Kyle Ohashi.

No one was injured, and firefighters have put out the blaze, he said.

Crews are still at the scene and the cause is still being investigated, Ohashi said.
