A 56-year-old man believed to have caused a two-car crash that blocked a Gig Harbor street for hours Thursday night was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said the man was driving a Jetta when he crossed the center line on Wollochet Drive Northwest and struck a PT Cruiser with two people inside.

A woman in the PT Cruiser was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. She was taken to a hospital and is listed in critical condition, Troyer said.

The other two people involved in the collision were also taken to hospitals with non life-threatening injuries.

Investigators closed Wollochet Drive Northwest at East Bay Drive Northwest for several hours after the 6:15 p.m. crash while they processed the scene.

Troyer said this is the second time in six months the driver has been arrested on suspicion of DUI.
