About 33 grams of marijuana was dropped in a grocery store parking lot late Tuesday after an armed man foiled a drug deal, Tacoma police said.

A man carrying a cardboard box full of bagged marijuana was waiting near his car in the 1300 block of South 38th Street for the person he was meeting when an armed man approached about 10 p.m.

The robber, who pointed a gun at the man with the drugs, grabbed the cardboard box and fled. He dropped several baggies of marijuana as he ran, police said.

The man’s friend fired two shots at the fleeing robber, hitting the vehicle and a parked car.

No one was arrested although police briefly detained the man who fired the gun. He has a license for the gun, which was seized by police.
