Methamphetamine and heroin were found in the walls of a Lakewood apartment where a man was fatally shot in November, according to Lakewood police.
Authorities found about 32 pounds of heroin and 4 pounds of methamphetamine at the residence in the 5300 block of San Francisco Avenue while serving a search warrant. Officers obtained the warrant after a tip that narcotics were hidden there before the death, according to police.
Authorities are still looking for information about the fatal shooting of Jaime Diaz-Solis, 32, who died outside the apartment Nov. 12. He was from Apatzingan, Michoacan in Mexico.
His roommate told officers he heard Diaz-Solis yell for him, followed by a gunshot. The roommate then found Diaz-Solis shot inside the apartment and later dragged him to the front door and told neighbors to call 911, he told police.
Officers said they found illegal narcotics in the apartment initially as well, and that it’s possible the death was related to drug trafficking.
The drugs found recently, behind a wall heater in two places, are estimated to be worth about $500,000, officers said.
Officials will speak with federal and local prosecutors about possible charges against the roommate for the drugs, according to Lakewood police.
Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call Lakewood police at 253-830-5000 or Crimestoppers at 253-591-5959.
