Pierce County prosecutors have charged a 26-year-old man with repeatedly ramming a pay box at the Narrows Marina.
Andrew Capshaw faces one count of second-degree malicious mischief and one count of second-degree taking a motor vehicle without permission for the Aug. 2 incident. He is expected to be arraigned today.
Officials estimate he caused $5,000 in damages.
Court documents give this account:
Capshaw took his mother’s car without permission and repeatedly ran it into the marina’s pay box. He hit the concrete and steel pay box with such force that the car was stuck in place.
Police arrived to investigate the accident and an officer noticed that pay envelopes littered the ground, many of which had been opened.
They then watched surveillance video of the crash and saw Capshaw had rammed the pay box multiple times.
His car was impounded and police later discovered that he had taken it without his mother’s permission. She did not notice it was missing until she went to leave for work.
