A fight broke out at the Maleng Regional Justice Center Monday during a recess in a trial related to a 2012 drive-by shooting in Seattle, according to Kent police.
A verbal disturbance started about 9:30 a.m. when people attending the trial moved into the hall outside the third floor courtroom, at which point a Seattle Police Gang Detective stepped in and was able to get several people involved to leave the area, according to police.
A 23-year-old Renton man associated with the defendant punched the detective and kicked a King County prosecuting attorney who tried to help the detective in the chest, according to police.
Court security personal and a King County Corrections officer arrived immediately and took the suspect into custody.
He was treated for a facial laceration and taken to the Kent Corrections Center, officers said.
The detective suffered facial lacerations and a human bite to his arm, according to police.
