A new fire marshal has taken the helm at Valley Regional Fire Authority.

After two decades of firefighting experience, Normal Golden was promoted to the position Jan. 1.

He was hired as an Auburn firefighter in October 1992 and rose through the ranks to captain in 1999. Golden has worked as a fire investigator, fire inspector and with emergency medical services.

His priority as fire marshal?

“My immediate goal is to work with the other divisions within the organization to continue the VRFA’s strong commitment to customer service,” Golden said. “I want to focus on building relationships with the local businesses and gaining voluntary code compliance in lieu of resorting to enforcement action.”
