Kent firefighters rescued an apartment tenant early this morning before extinguishing flames in the complex stairwell, the department said.
Flames were reported about 12:15 a.m. Crews arrived to find the fire was fully involved in the common stairwell of the fourplex, in the 23900 block of 111th Place Southeast, and had trapped an upstairs resident on the balcony.
They used a ladder to rescue the trapped resident and then doused the blaze. The fire was kept in the exterior stairwell, and no residents were displaced.
No injuries were reported, and the cause is under investigation.
