Fife High School was locked down mid morning as police used a K-9 officer to track a man who escaped from a mental health facility in the city, Fife police Cmdr. Tim Floyd said.

The suspect was arrested last night by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department after a domestic violence incident in the Bonney Lake area, Floyd said, and was  checked into the facility for some sort of mental health supervision.

Officers tried to track the suspect on the east side of the city, and locked down the school as a precaution, Floyd said. They did not find the man, but believe he has left the area, he added.

“Pretty much anybody that we would be tracking, we would lock down the school facility,” he said.

The lockdown was lifted at 1:20 p.m., the school said.
