Pierce County law enforcement arrested more than 500 suspected drunken drivers during a nearly six-week enforcement campaign over the holiday season.

The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign netted 543 arrests in Pierce County from Nov. 21 to Jan. 1, according to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.

That is slightly down from last year when 562 drivers were arrested on suspicion of DUI during the same time period.

Statewide, law enforcement arrested 3,446 drivers.

Participating agencies include Sumner, Bonney Lake, Fife, Tacoma, Puyallup, Laewood, Dupont, Steilacoom, University Place, Gig Harbor and Fircrest police departments, as well as the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and the Washington State Patrol.
