A dog was killed Tuesday after being trapped inside an Auburn house that caught fire, according to Valley Regional Fire Authority.

Crews were called to the home in the 1300 block of 22nd Street Southeast about 1:45 p.m. Firefighters said smoke was pouring from the windows when they arrived.

After searching the house, they discovered the dead dog. No one was home at the time of the blaze.

The cause is under investigation.
