UPDATED: Tacoma house fire sends two to hospital

UPDATE as of 6:03 a.m.: Two people were taken to the hospital with second-degree burns after escaping the fire, Tacoma police said.

A woman was hospitalized with burns to her hands and legs; a man suffered burns to his face and head.

INITIAL POST: Tacoma firefighters and medics are responding to a house fire near South 45th Street and Fawcett Avenue.

Battalion Chief Dale Vaughn said firefighters arrived on the scene about 10:24 p.m. Tuesday. He said people from the house were gathered in the back yard and rescue crews were checking for injuries.

Firefighters were also summoning Red Cross assistance for the residents who escaped the blaze.
