A man claiming to have an explosive device robbed a Puyallup bank branch this evening, police said.
The man, who wore a ski mask, entered the Heritage Bank branch at 4627 S. Meridian St. about 5:10 p.m.
He told one of the two tellers on duty he had a bomb and demanded cash, police said.
He ran out of the branch after receiving an undisclosed amount of money then pedaled off on a bicycle, witnesses told police.
Pierce County sheriff’s deputies aided by a bomb-sniffing dog examined the device the robber left behind but found it was not an explosive.
No one was hurt.
