Tacoma police said they recovered a U-haul pickup truck filled with stolen mail and packages during a traffic stop early this morning.
A resident called 911 just before 4 a.m. to report seeing people in the truck stealing mail, then followed the truck until officers arrived.
An officer tried to stop the U-haul but the driver initially refused to pull over. They stopped just across the city border on 356th Street Southwest in Federal Way, department spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.
The truck was impounded and detectives have not yet sorted through the stolen items, which were stowed in garbage bags in the truck cab and behind the seats.
Although there were some packages, Cool said most of the stolen items appeared to be envelopes.
One woman was arrested on suspicion of obstruction after providing police with multiple false names. The other two people in the truck, a man and a woman, were not arrested.
The investigation is ongoing.
