The driver of an SUV could face criminal charges after crashing into a parked logging truck in Spanaway and seriously injuring his passenger, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

The accident occurred around noon at 224th Street and Mountain Highway.

The SUV driver tried to pass another vehicle on the shoulder and slammed into the logging truck, which was parked on the side of the road, spokesman Ed Troyer said.

A passenger in the SUV was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
