Kent police said a 50-year-old man with a history of mental illness was taken for an evaluation Wednesday night after he twice fired a gun inside his apartment.

No one was injured, but at least one bullet pierced a neighbor’s window screen at the complex in the 11300 block of Kent Kangley Road. The shooting occurred shortly after 10 p.m.

Officers were on scene when the man allegedly fired one of the shots and tried to get him to come out of his apartment. The man eventually came out on his own and told police he had fired the gun because somebody was trying to attack him.
