A man shot and killed in Tacoma early Tuesday has been identified as 20-year-old Tristan Dillard.

The Kent man was one of two people shot in a moving car that crashed into a fence in a church parking lot in the 6200 block of McKinley Avenue about 1 a.m.

Dillard was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. A woman inside the car was shot in the buttocks.

The alleged shooter has not been arrested and is cooperating with detectives, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

He said investigators are exploring the possibility that the shooting was self-defense because Dillard was also armed with a gun.

The shooting occurred while six friends were driving somebody home. It’s unclear what the argument leading up to the incident was about, but police said the involved parties had been drinking alcohol most of the day.
