UPDATE as of 9:20 p.m. The deceased man has been identified as 35-year-old Michael Crawford of Olympia by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

INITIAL POST: A suspected car thief shot by a Lakewood Police officer Sunday night has died, according to Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum.

The 35-year-old man died tonight, he said.

Lakewood Police spokesman Chris Lawler said Sunday that the man was shot after he fired on officers, after they pursued the suspected stolen vehicle he was driving. The Lakewood officer who shot the man would be put on administrative leave, per procedure, he said.

No officers were injured.

The man was taken to a local trauma center in critical condition after the shooting.

Tacoma Police are investigating the shooting, but do not have any updates at this time, Fulghum said.
