A Gig Harbor woman pleaded guilty today to trying to hire a hit man to kill her husband.
Karen Lofgren, 48, was convicted of a single count of conspiracy to solicit second-degree murder. Lofgren is to be sentenced Jan. 25. Pierce County Superior Court Judge Katherine Stolz allowed Lofgren to remain free on $1 million bail until then.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested her in February after Lofgren approached an ex-con she knew and asked for his help to “get rid of” her husband, court records show. The offender told his probation officer about her request, and he went to the sheriff’s department.
An undercover detective posing as a hit man later met with Lofgren, who gave him a pair of diamond earrings as a down payment on the job, photos of her husband and details about his daily schedule, the records show.
Lofgren and her husband were in the middle of an ugly divorce at the time, and her husband was covered by a $1 million life-insurance policy.
