A family of four is being assisted by the American Red Cross after an early morning house fire in Prairie Ridge that damaged their home.

Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 13100 block of Prairie Ridge Drive East just before 7:30 a.m. Monday, according to East Pierce Fire & Rescue.

A man was treated at the scene for breathing difficulties, but otherwise the family escaped without injuries, East Pierce officials said.

Firefighters contained the flames primarily to a bedroom.

Crews are still investigating the cause of the blaze and the cost of the damage.
