The incident began when a deputy tried to stop the man for a traffic violation, Tacoma police reported. Instead of pulling over, he sped away, leading deputies throughtout the southern part of the city.
At one point, deputies broke off the pursuit but later picked it up again after spotting the fleeing car, police said.
The man lost control of the his car on South 38 Street near its intersection with South L Street. The vehicle slammed into an occupied house before careening into the intersection and coming to rest, police said.
The driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. No one inside the house was hurt.
Deputies expect to book the man into jail for investigation of numerous offenses once he’s released from the hospital.
