A man is accused of robbing a Spanaway Safeway store in the 15800 block of Pacific Avenue South with a knife Nov. 21, according to court documents.
Neil Thomas Hiller, 25, pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of first-degree robbery and two counts of first-degree attempted assault.
An attorney for Hiller could not be reached Tuesday night.
According to charging papers:
Loss prevention officers at the store told deputies that Hiller stole $15.83 in merchandise. When the employees confronted him, he pulled a knife and told them to get away or he would “shank” them.
Hiller fled with the stolen goods and two loss prevention officers chased him. During the pursuit, he tried to stab both employees.
Officers found and arrested Hiller, and recovered the knife. After he was in custody, Hiller asked one of the loss prevention officers if his job was worth dying for.
The court set his bail at $250,000.
