Bomb scare closes South Hill Mall Transit Center; it’s back open now

A bomb scare shut down the South Hill Mall Transit Center for Pierce Transit for part of today.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and Puyallup police responded to a report of a suspicious package, said Pierce Transit spokesman Lars Erickson.

Erickson said he got word of the bomb scare about 5:30 p.m. The transit center reopened around 7:40 p.m.

Bus service was moved from the transit center to Meridian while the center was closed, Erickson said. “Our service wasn’t interrupted,” he said. “It was a minor detour for us.”
