Lakewood police are investigating what they believe to be a homicide after a man with a gunshot wound died tonight outside an apartment complex, Lt. Chris Lawler said.

Someone called 911 to report shots fired at 9:46 p.m.

Officers arrived in the 5300 block of San Francisco Avenue Southwest to find a man on the ground with at least one gunshot wound to the chest, Lawler said.

The man wasn’t breathing, and officers started CPR, Lawler said, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are working to interview witnesses, but a language barrier means they’re “getting very little” until translators arrive, Lawler said.

No further information is immediately available. Check back for updates.

UPDATE: Drug trafficking possibly involved in fatal Lakewood shooting
