UPDATE as of 10:06 a.m.: The missing mushroom picker was found about 9:30 a.m. walking five miles from where he was last seen.

The man was cold and wet but does not require medical treatment, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. He told crews he lit a fire to stay warm overnight.

INITIAL POST: A search is underway in Randle for a 50-year-old mushroom picker who went missing Wednesday on Lone Tree Mountain.

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office has not identified the missing man other than to say he is from Packwood.

After three hours of picking mushrooms, the missing man’s friend returned to his car about 3:30 p.m. and honked his horn to indicate he was ready to leave. The man did not respond and could not be found in the immediate area.

Search and rescue crews began looking for the mushroom picker about 7:45 p.m.

Officials say he was dressed in jeans, a jean jacket and shoes. He was not prepared to stay overnight but does have a cigarette lighter with him.
