A 19-year-old man was arrested Tuesday night after crashing a stolen car in Tacoma. His two passengers were arrested on drug charges.

A police officer spotted the car about 8:30 p.m. in a park near 49th Avenue Northeast and Norpoint Way Northeast. As the officer drove up to tell the vehicle’s occupants it’s illegal to be in a city park after dark, the driver sped off.

The officer did not pursue the car but the vehicle crashed while speeding down the hill. Police then learned the vehicle was reported stolen from Federal Way.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of eluding police and possession of stolen property. A 20-year-old woman in the car was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute after heroin was found in the car. The second passenger, an 18-year-old man, was also arrested on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia.
