UPDATE as of 11:52 a.m.: The fire is now under control and crews have confirmed that a 20-year-old woman previously unaccounted for was not in the house when the blaze broke out.

INITIAL POST: West Pierce Fire & Rescue crews are fighting to contain a house fire that has been burning for about an hour.

A woman was home when she heard an explosion about 10:35 a.m. She escaped her two-story home in the 5300 block of 87th Avenue Court West and called 911.

Firefighters arrived five minutes later and found a fully-involved blaze that burned through the basement into the home. More than 30 firefighters are trying to douse the flames.

No injuries have been reported but crews have been unable to locate a second woman who lives in the home. It’s unclear whether the woman was in the house when the fire was started but her car was not found at the home, spokeswoman Hallie McCurdy said.

“We haven’t been able to get in and do our interior search of the home yet but we’re pretty sure she’s not home,” McCurdy said.
