A morning hunt for a pair of burglars near the King/Pierce County line led to a momentary lockdown of schools and day care centers in Southwest Federal Way and Dash Point.

Federal Way police corralled one suspect, but were still searching for the other, who fled when police arrived. Here’s the statement from Federal Way police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock:

At approx.. 7:30am Federal Way police were alerted to residential burglary in progress at 32500 41st Ave SW. 2 Male suspects and vehicle were seen leaving the area. Suspect vehicle was located by PD (following a 911 call from resident in area) at a second residence in the area of 30800 block of 50 PL SW, where we believe a second burglary was occurring.  The suspect vehicle was confirmed as stolen. One male suspect was contacted and arrested. An extensive K9 track met with negative results. Two elementary schools and a one daycare center were placed in lockdown. The second suspect has not been located.

Please call 911 immediately if you see anything suspicious in your neighborhood.

Outstanding SUSPECT: White Male, Approx 20 years old, 5’9, thin build, green stocking cap, jeans and black Carhart jacket.
