A blessing will be given Tuesday morning at a Lakewood apartment complex where an alleged gang member was gunned down last month.

Local clergy will gather at 10 a.m. at the Williamsburg Apartments, 112th Street Southwest and Bridgeport Way Southwest, to reclaim the spot where 29-year-old Charles Pitts was fatally shot Oct. 24.

Police said the slaying happened after a “slap-boxing” match broke out between Pitts and a man from a rival street gang.

The ceremony is open to the public.

The Associated Ministries sponsors the Moment of Blessing ceremonies at locations in Pierce County where homicides have occurred. The ceremonies are intended to provide support for the victims’ families, friends and the community where the crime took place.
