A 40-year-old woman is in serious condition after being struck by a car Monday evening, Tacoma police said.

The accident happened about 6:40 p.m. in the 200 block of North G Street. Police spokesman Mark Fulghum said the woman was trying to cross the street when she emerged between two parked cars and was hit by a passing vehicle.

She was treated at the scene for a broken arm and then transported to the hospital, where she underwent surgery to have a lung removed.
