Fife police have been at an apartment today investigating a shooting in the 6600 block of 20th Street East.

About 2:30 p.m. officers received a report of a shooting victim, and arrived to find a man in his mid-30s on the back porch of the apartment with a gunshot wound to his lower back, Fife police Cmdr. Tim Floyd said.

The man was taken to the hospital with what seemed to be non life-threatening injuries, Floyd said.

The woman who lives in the apartment called 911, but said she was not home at the time of the shooting, Floyd said.

Investigators have determined the shooting either happened in the living room of the apartment or on the porch where the man was found, Floyd added.

Police are waiting for a search warrant to enter the apartment and do not expect to have more information until tomorrow, Floyd said.

While the suspect of and motive for the shooting are not clear, Floyd said it does not appear to be random.
