The American Red Cross today released its free Wildfire App for iPhone and Android platforms, which allows users to track the blazes.
The program sends warnings when conditions could cause wildfires, alerts when a fire has begun within 100 miles of monitored locations and shows the perimeter of existing fires as available.
App users can also send “I’m safe” messages to let friends and family know they are unharmed.
Other features include locations of open Red Cross shelters, Spanish language settings, preparedness checklists, a flashlight and alarm, and emergency instructions that are available without a mobile connection.
Users can earn badges through interactive quizzes, which can be shared via social media.
The App joins the Red Cross First Aid, Hurricane and Earthquake Apps, which have more than 1.2 million users.
