A woman and her chihuahua were killed this morning in a two-car collision on the Key Peninsula.

The crash happened about 9:40 a.m. on state Route 302 at 124th Avenue Court KP North.

One woman was pronounced dead at the scene, Washington State Patrol trooper Guy Gill said. Another woman and her 7-year-old daughter  are being taken to the hospital with injuries. The child was listed in stable condition.

Troopers are directing traffic in the area while they investigate the accident.

Gill said the woman who died crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the other vehicle. The crash may have been caused because the woman had her dog in her lap.
