A branch fell on a power line in South Tacoma this morning, plunging 6,000 homes and businesses into the dark.

Crews were immediately dispatched and have returned power to all but 1,000 customers, Tacoma Public Utilities tweeted at 7:40 a.m.

The remaining houses should have power back quickly.

UPDATE as of 8:45 a.m. Power is restored to all homes.
