An Amtrak Cascades train hit a pickup truck about 19 miles south of Tacoma on Joint Base Lewis-McChord land about 7 p.m. tonight, killing the driver, according to JBLM spokeswoman Brendalyn Carpenter.
The train left Seattle at 5:30 p.m. on its way to Portland, and had about 153 passengers on board at the time of the accident at Solo Point, according to Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham.
No one on the train was injured.
The base is not yet releasing information about the victim, Carpenter said.
JBLM law enforcement and first responders are on the scene, she said.
The train will remain at Solo Point as crews investigate, Graham said. She did not have an estimate for when it would continue toward Portland.
