He complained about the handcuffs being too tight. Then he started bucking, trying to shake the grasp of two deputies escorting him through the Pierce County Jail.
Prosecutors charged Shaun Lampert, 46, with custodial assault in connection with Tuesday’s incident at the jail.
Here’s how it went down, according to charging papers:
Two correction deputies were moving Lampert to a different section of the jail when he complained about the handcuffs. Then he tensed up and tried to free himself from the deputies.
As the deputies struggled to control him, Lampert kicked one deputy, who “took the defendant to the ground and tried to control him.”
Lampert then elbowed the same deputy in the mouth, causing his upper lip to swell and bleed. The deputy also injured a finger and knee while trying to detain Lampert, who stopped resisting after being hit with pepper spray.
