UPDATE as of 2:18 p.m. Yang was found safe this afternoon and is being taken to a hospital to get checked out.

INITIAL POST: A search resumed this morning for a 79-year-old Tacoma man who went missing Sunday morning while mushroom picking in a heavily forested area south of Randle.

About 30 volunteers from various rescue teams are looking for Dapeng Yang, whose family reported him missing after they became separated off of Forest Service Road 26 near Strawberry Mountain.

Yang is an experienced hiker and had water and a backpack with him, but he was not prepared to stay outside overnight, especially with nighttime temperatures dropping into the low 30s. He does not suffer from any known medical conditions, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department.
