Search and rescue crews are looking for a 79-year-old Tacoma man who disappeared Sunday while picking mushrooms south of Randle.

The man, who was not identified, was with two relatives off Forest Service Road 26 near Strawberry Mountain when he became separated from them about 10:30 a.m. His family waited for him at the car, but he never appeared.

Packwood search crews and Cascade Dogs scoured the woods for the man until midnight and resumed searching this morning. About 30 volunteers are assisting with the search.

He had a backpack with water but was not prepared to stay outside overnight, officials said. Temperatures dipped to 32 degrees Sunday night.
