A 30-year-old man wanted in connection with the kidnapping, robbery and strangulation of a Lakewood man whose body was dumped in Graham was booked into Pierce County Jail today.

Jeffrey Powell II has already been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and first-degree robbery in the death of 51-year-old Dean Barker.

Prosecutors claim seven people attacked Barker Sept. 7 at a home in South Tacoma. His body was found the next day outside a new home for sale in the 22200 block of 12th Avenue East. Barker’s mouth was taped shut and his hands were tied behind his back.

Six others have pleaded not guilty. They are Aileenah Horton, 17; William Barry, 33; Angela King, 32; Joshua Stevens, 23; Justin Mahaffey, 23; and John Joseph Brown, 60.

A motive remains unclear, but some of the defendants told detectives they were angry with Barker because they thought he’d sexually assaulted one of the woman and possibly was involved in the brief disappearance of one of the defendant’s 3-year-old daughter.

The child was found unharmed.
