UPDATE: Federal Way police say a 17-year-old student at the school disclosed to her mother Sunday that she’d been having sex with the teacher for two years. Police arrested the teacher Monday and booked him into the jail at the King County Regional Justice Center in Kent on suspicion of second-degree rape.

He appeared in court Tuesday and was released on his own recognizance.

“The King County Prosecutor’s Office and Federal Way police detectives are continuing the investigation with the anticipation of formal charges forthcoming,” police said in a news release.

PREVIOUS POST: Federal Way police and school district officials report today that a teacher at Todd Beamer High School has been arrested for sexual misconduct.

The teacher, a man who’s been at the school since 2007, was placed on administrative leave Monday when the allegations came to light, school district spokeswoman Diane Turner said this afternoon.

The man made a first appearance in King County Superior Court earlier this week and was released pending trial, police said.

The man taught math and most recently English at the school, Turner said.

Details of his alleged crimes were not immediately available.

Federal Way police are expected to issue a news release on the case later this afternoon.
