A man spotted a cougar in the backyard of his Bonney Lake home this morning, and state wildlife agents have been called into to investigate, Bonney Lake police said.

The man, who lives in the vicinity in the 8200 block of 191st Avenue East saw the big cat about 9 a.m., police spokesman Todd Green said.
“He’s an avid hunter, so he’s pretty credible where identifying wildlife is concerned,” Green said.
The man said the cougar ran east out of his backyard toward Church Lake Road East.
No other sightings have been reported, Green said, but responding officers noted dogs barking throughout the neighborhood.

The neighborhood where the man lives borders a green belt. An undeveloped area along Fennel Creek is not far away.
