A driver was badly injured in a single-car wreck on Southwest Dash Point Road in Federal Way early this morning, police said.

The car left the road just before 1 a.m. and hit a utility pole, trapping the driver inside the car and sparking a brush fire, police said.

The driver’s injuries appeared to be life-threatening, and police were forced to close the road for several hours while they investigated and battled the flames.

The identity of the driver was not immediately released.
